Looking for an Online 11 Plus Summer Course in Tring?

11 Plus Tutoring offers a targeted summer booster programme in August for Year 5 students in Tring, specifically structured to meet the requirements of the South West Herts Schools Consortium test administered in September. The consortium consists of seven partially selective schools in South West Hertfordshire: Croxley Danes School, Parmiter’s School, Queens’ School, Rickmansworth School, St Clement Danes School, Watford Grammar School for Boys, and Watford Grammar School for Girls.

Students in Tring are required to take the academic test only once, as a single registration and examination process applies to all consortium schools, regardless of the number of schools to which they apply. August serves as the final significant preparation period for Year 5 pupils, providing focused time to consolidate the two assessed subject areas before the September examination.

Confidence building

Doing full mock papers in realistic conditions helps children feel calm and ready for test day.

Boost Confidence with Real Feedback

Structured August learning

Sticking to a regular weekly timetable in August gives families a clear revision plan and helps keep preparation on track.

As every session is live online, Tring families can support their child with specialist 11 Plus help from home throughout August, without travel or interrupting summer plans.

How a Year 5 Amersham student improved through summer mock practice

Student From Tring Built Confidence in Bespoke-Style Maths Questions

A Year 5 student from Tring primarily practised with standard GL Assessment-style mathematics papers before enrolling in the summer booster course. Upon joining, it became evident that the SWHSC test employs a unique question format rather than pre-made papers. Following the provision of authentic SWHSC-style practice questions by his teacher, instructional sessions were adapted to familiarise him with this specific format. By the end of August, the student was completing full mock papers in the appropriate format, demonstrating marked improvements in both accuracy and confidence compared to the beginning of the course.

Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course Matters for Tring Families

For Tring families, August is the final significant period to prepare for the September SWHSC test.

The SWHSC test includes two papers: Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. These are custom papers, not standard GL or CEM versions, each lasting about 45 to 60 minutes with a short break. Scores are age-standardised to account for birth month.

Each of the seven consortium schools sets its own Published Admission Number (PAN) for Year 7, published annually on the school’s admissions page. Families should verify the current PAN for each preferred school, as these numbers may change between admissions cycles. According to Watford Grammar School for Girls’ admission policy, its PAN was 210 girls, of which 137 were community places and up to 73 were specialist places.

A single online registration covers all six academic SWHSC schools. Music and Sports aptitude tests are available separately and are optional. Tring families only need to register and test once.

Parents will receive scores around noon on Thursday, 15 October 2026. The secondary application deadline is Saturday, 31 October 2026.

There is no fixed pass mark. In Watford Grammar School for Girls, places are offered in descending order of standardised score, although Looked After Children and staff children receive priority at most schools. Because Tring is at the northern edge of the consortium’s catchment area, distance from the school may affect admissions when places are oversubscribed. Families should review each preferred school’s policy carefully.

A focused summer booster course helps children in Tring, Berkhamsted, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and the surrounding HP23 and HP4 areas develop stronger exam techniques, better timing, and increased confidence for the September SWHSC test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who provides an online 11 Plus summer course in Tring?
11 Plus Tutoring offers a live, online four-week booster course for Year 5 students in Tring, Dacorum. The programme includes instructions in Maths and Verbal Reasoning through small-group sessions, timed mock examinations, and personalised tutor feedback, all aligned with the South West Herts Schools Consortium test format.
Why does a Tring child sit a test for schools located elsewhere?
Tring School is non-selective, and there are no grammar schools within Dacorum. Consequently, families seeking selective education typically apply to schools in the South West Herts Schools Consortium, which are located in the Watford and Rickmansworth areas, several miles to the south.
Which grammar schools does this course prepare for?
The course prepares students for entry to the South West Herts Schools Consortium, which comprises Watford Grammar School for Boys, Watford Grammar School for Girls, Parmiter’s School, Queens’ School, Rickmansworth School, and St Clement Danes School. All of these schools use the same shared academic assessment.
Does a strong score guarantee a place at an SWHSC school?
No. There is no predetermined pass mark, and each school implements its own oversubscription criteria. Priority is often given to siblings of current students and children of staff members, while selective criteria are secondary at most schools. Additionally, proximity to the school may be a significant factor for families residing farther away, including those in Tring.
Is this course suitable for complete beginners?
The course is intended for Year 5 students who have already commenced some 11 Plus preparation. Families whose children have not yet begun 11 Plus study are advised to contact the team in advance to determine the course’s suitability.
