Looking for an Online 11 Plus Summer Course in Hebden Bridge?
Getting your child ready for the September Grammar School entrance exam can feel overwhelming, but 11 Plus Tutoring makes it simple. We run a live online summer booster course every August for Year 5 children in Hebden Bridge and the wider HX7 area, providing structured practice and expert support before the Calderdale FSCE exam. The course helps families whose children are working towards Year 7 places at North Halifax Grammar School, Heckmondwike Grammar School, or The Crossley Heath School.
August provides an ideal opportunity for focused 11 Plus preparation. With the school term finished, children can dedicate more time to strengthening their English and Maths skills, refining their Creative Writing techniques, and becoming familiar with exam-style questions. Consistent practice throughout the summer helps them enter September feeling confident, prepared, and ready to perform at their best.
We also offer regular online 11 Plus Tuition throughout the year for Years 3, 4 and 5 students.
Why Families in Hebden Bridge Seek the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course
Improving Exam Pace
Many children know the answers but struggle to complete all three FSCE papers within the time allowed. The course helps improve both speed and accuracy.
Developing Writing Skills
Creative Writing is a crucial component of the FSCE exam. The program aids children in planning, organising, and crafting strong responses under timed conditions.
Understanding the Test Style
The FSCE exam format, used by Grammar Schools, is specific. Regular practice helps children familiarise themselves with the question types.
Extra Guidance Before September
During the summer holidays, families often find it challenging to maintain home revision. Tutor support and structured lessons ensure that children continue to progress.
Feeling Calm on Exam Day
Regular mock papers help children become comfortable with exam conditions, ultimately building confidence before the entrance tests in September.
Keeping Skills Fresh
The long summer break can disrupt learning routines. The booster course keeps children engaged and helps them retain important Year 5 knowledge.

How a Year 5 Hebden Bridge Student Mastered the FSCE in Four Weeks
Managing time across all three FSCE papers was the biggest challenge for one Year 5 student from Hebden Bridge. He often rushed his Creative Writing and did not finish all the Maths questions in practice tests. After joining our 11 Plus summer intensive course, he completed weekly timed mock exams and worked through guided lessons with our tutors. This helped him build a steady approach to each paper and improve his pacing. By the end of the four weeks, he was finishing every FSCE paper within the time limit and felt much more confident and calm going into the September exam.

Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course Matters for Hebden Bridge Families
Families applying to Calderdale grammar schools must register their child for the admissions test through the Calderdale Council Admissions portal. Registration must be completed before the closing date to allow your child to sit the September entrance exam.
North Halifax Grammar School offers 180 Year 7 places. The FSCE exam includes multiple-choice and written papers in English and Maths, plus a Creative Writing paper. Only children who do well enough in the English and Maths sections will have their Creative Writing marked. Parents must submit their Common Application Form by 31st October 2026.
The Crossley Heath School also offers 180 Year 7 places and uses the same joint FSCE entrance exam as North Halifax Grammar School. Both schools share the same test, so children sit once and can be considered for both at the same time.
Heckmondwike Grammar School offers 210 Year 7 places and uses the FSCE exam, which covers English, Maths and Creative Writing. Registration for September 2027 entry opens on 11th May 2026 and closes at midday on 22nd June 2026. The exam will take place on 14th September 2026, with results released from 17th October 2026.
For the Calderdale 11 Plus, there is no set pass mark. Children are ranked by their age-standardised scores, with admission going to the highest rankings. Passing the test does not guarantee a place, as there are often more qualified applicants than available spots.
For families in Hebden Bridge and nearby areas such as Halifax, Sowerby Bridge and Elland, the 11 Plus summer course helps children arrive at exam day with stronger English and Maths skills, a clear Creative Writing strategy and the confidence to perform at their best in September.
