2027 Entry
Children joining this August 2026 course are preparing for the entry tests (created by Future Stories Community Enterprise) set for September 2026 for Year 7 entry in September 2027. Per the North Yorkshire Council’s own guidance, the council organises testing only for Ripon Grammar School. Ermysted’s Grammar School and Skipton Girls’ High School each run their own separate test. Ermysted’s registration opens at noon on 13 April 2026 and closes at noon on 31 August 2026, with its entrance test on Saturday 26 September 2026 and results issued in the week of 12 October 2026. Skipton Girls’ High School held its Year 5 Open Evening on Thursday, 9 July 2026, with a separate registration process.
Looking for an Online 11 Plus Summer Course in Grassington?
Grassington sits roughly nine miles up the Dale from Skipton, which still makes Ermysted’s Grammar School, a boys’ school, and Skipton Girls’ High School the nearest grammar school options for local families, ahead of any alternatives further afield. We support families across Grassington and the BD23 postcode, along with nearby households in BD24 towards Settle and DL8 towards Wensleydale, all served by the same two Skipton schools.
For many families in Grassington, where travelling further for secondary education is already part of everyday life, the summer holidays provide the best opportunity to prepare properly for the 11 Plus. With no school timetable to balance, children can focus on strengthening weaker topics, improving speed and accuracy, and becoming familiar with the timed format used in the Skipton Grammar School entrance tests. This structured August preparation helps pupils approach the September exams with greater confidence and stronger exam technique.
For online 11 Plus preparation during Years 3, 4 and 5, we offer online 11 Plus Tuition.
Why Families in Grassington Seek the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course
Exam practice gap
Strong understanding of English and maths is often not enough on its own; many students still need repeated practice sitting full FSCE-style papers under real exam conditions to build readiness.
Timing and speed
Pupils frequently require targeted exercises that train them to answer questions efficiently, manage their time carefully, and maintain accuracy within strict time limits.
Unfamiliar test format
As FSCE-specific practice materials are limited, families often rely on tuition that closely replicates the structure and style of the official Skipton School familiarisation papers.
Self-study plateau
At-home revision can plateau, slowing progress, making it important for learners to receive expert feedback on written work and problem-solving approaches.
Confidence-building
Regular mock testing helps students become familiar with exam pressure, leading to greater calm, focus, and performance on the actual test day.
Structured August learning
A guided summer plan ensures steady progress through consistent lessons, organised revision tasks, and continuous tutor support throughout the holidays.
Students We Commonly Support for the 11 Plus in Grassington
Households across Grassington, Threshfield, Kettlewell and Burnsall form much of our Upper Wharfedale intake, spanning the BD23, BD24 and DL8 postcodes, with children typically attending Upper Wharfedale Primary Federation and Threshfield Primary School before sitting entry tests for Ermysted’s Grammar School or Skipton Girls’ High School. Most are working towards a Year 7 place at one of the two schools, despite the longer daily journey into Skipton that a grammar school place would involve.
Why Choose Our Grassington 11 Plus Intensive Summer Booster Course?
Accelerated Summer Preparation
A structured four-week programme covering Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning, designed specifically around the FSCE entrance test used by Ermysted's Grammar School and Skipton Girls' High School.
Small-Group Tuition
Classes are limited to six pupils, allowing tutors to identify individual weaknesses and provide personalised guidance throughout the course.
Specialist 11 Plus Tutors
Lessons are delivered by DBS-checked tutors with extensive experience preparing children for the Skipton Grammar School entrance tests, not general 11 Plus examinations.
Weekly Timed Mock Papers
Every session includes a full timed FSCE-style mock test, with detailed feedback and question-by-question explanations provided the same day.
Exam Technique That Makes a Difference
Tutors explain the reasoning behind every answer, helping pupils understand mistakes, improve accuracy and develop stronger problem-solving skills.
Live Interactive Online Lessons
Children actively participate throughout each lesson, asking questions, solving problems and receiving immediate tutor support in a collaborative learning environment.
Detailed Personalised Feedback
After every mock paper, families receive clear guidance highlighting strengths, priority areas for improvement, and exactly what their child should focus on before the next session.
Professional Feedback
Detailed feedback after every mock paper to help students identify mistakes, improve weak areas, and make steady progress.
How One Year 5 Student Turned Summer Practice into Real Progress
Working carefully through every question had always come naturally to one Grassington student, but that same care meant the second paper was rarely finished in time during early practice attempts. Over the four-week course, structured drills on managing time across a full paper, combined with direct tutor feedback, gradually built up speed without sacrificing accuracy. By the final week, both papers were being completed within the time allowed, with marks holding steady from start to finish.

Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Matters for Grassington Families
North Yorkshire Council does not organise testing for either Skipton school, meaning families register directly with each one, on its own separate timetable.
The ‘required standard’ for admission to Year 7 in September 2027 will be determined by the Admissions Committee based on the performance of candidates in the main Entrance. Test
The required standard for Ermysted Grammar School is 128. Where more children meet the required standard than there are places, priority goes first to Looked After children, then to those within the catchment area, then to those outside it, with Pupil Premium status, siblings, and distance used as tie-breaks.
For Grassington families and nearby areas such as Embsay and Gargrave, the purpose of the August course is very specific: it focuses less on introducing new material and more on repeated, timed exam-style practice. This approach helps children become familiar with the two-paper format and build the confidence needed to perform steadily in the September test.
