2027 Entry
Children joining this August 2026 course are working towards the West Midlands Grammar Schools entrance test, which students take in September, for entry to a Wolverhampton grammar school. Wolverhampton Girls’ High School’s own Year 7 2027 admissions timeline confirms that registration opens in May 2026 and closes at 4:00 pm on Friday 26 June 2026, with applications and test centre details managed through the West Midlands Grammar Schools portal. The test itself falls on Monday 14 September 2026; results follow in mid-October 2026, ahead of the 31 October 2026 cut-off for the Local Authority preference form, lodged separately with City of Wolverhampton Council.
Looking for an Online 11 Plus Summer Course in Tettenhall?
11 Plus Tutoring runs an August booster course every year for Tettenhall’s Year 5 pupils as the West Midlands Grammar Schools entrance test approaches. We work with families across the WV6 and WV3 postcodes whose daughters are aiming for Wolverhampton Girls’ High School. For sons, Wolverhampton has no state boys’ grammar school of its own; the nearest state option is Queen Mary’s Grammar School in Walsall, roughly 8 miles away. Some Tettenhall families also consider the independent Wolverhampton Grammar School nearby, which is physically closer but runs its own fee-paying January entrance test, quite separate from the process covered here.
August sits at exactly the right point in the calendar: school is finished, homework has stopped, and a child has the space to iron out remaining gaps and build real speed under timed conditions, rather than facing a full GL-style paper for the very first time in the test hall in September.

Why Families in Tettenhall Seek the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course
Closing the gap between knowing and performing
Many children have covered the content but haven't yet sat a complete paper under proper timed conditions, and that gap only closes with repeated full-paper practice
Sharpening pace under pressure
Working quickly while staying accurate is a skill in its own right, and it tends to need direct, structured practice rather than developing on its own
Filling a curriculum gap
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning simply aren't part of everyday primary school teaching, so families actively seek this out elsewhere
Moving past a self-study ceiling
Once a child has done what they can on their own, parents look for a tutor who can spot specific weak points and correct them
Settling exam-day nerves
Frequent, low-stakes mock practice tends to leave a child calmer and steadier once the real test arrives
Wanting the summer organised, not improvised
Many families would rather follow a clear, supervised plan through August than patch together revision on their own

Developing Confidence in Non-Verbal Reasoning Through Guided Mock Exam Preparation
At the beginning of the programme, a Year 5 pupil from Tettenhall faced challenges in Non-Verbal Reasoning, particularly with patterns, sequences, and logical shapes. He often lost marks due to confusion under timed pressure. With step-by-step guidance, visual problem-solving techniques, and regular mock practice, his understanding became much clearer. By the end of the course, he was solving NVR questions more accurately and approaching problems with a structured method.

Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course Matters for Tettenhall Families
Parents who wish their daughter to be considered for a place in Year 7 from 1st September 2026 must register her for the entrance test by completing and returning the Registration Form to the school by the specified date. Check the Year 7 admission information at Wolverhampton Girls’ High School.
The West Midlands Grammar Schools entrance test, provided by GL Assessment, is sat as two multiple-choice papers of around 50 to 60 minutes each, covering English Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and Non-Verbal/Spatial Reasoning, with every answer recorded on a separate answer sheet rather than written out.
Wolverhampton Girls’ High School is a selective girls’ grammar school catering for students aged 11 to 18 and holds Academy status. Admission to the school is free of charge, with no entry fees. The published admission number for the academic year starting 1st September 2026 is set at 180 students.
The test results are age-standardised and calculated using a weighted system: 50% from English and Verbal Reasoning combined, 25% from Mathematics, and 25% from Non-Verbal Reasoning, meaning that strong performance in Maths alone is not enough to achieve a high overall score.
To be eligible for admission to Queen Mary’s Grammar School, candidates must achieve a minimum standardised score (the minimum qualifying score) in the Test. This will be decided by Governors once they have received the order of merit. Where the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available at the school.
