Looking for an Online 11 Plus Summer Course in Saltash?
11 Plus Tutoring runs a summer booster Programme in August for Year 5 students in Saltash, helping them get ready for the Plymouth grammar school entrance exams in September 2026. While Cornwall does not have its own selective grammar schools, Saltash’s PL12 postcode is just across the Tamar Bridge from Plymouth. This means families in south-east Cornwall, including Saltash, are within the catchment area for all three Plymouth grammar schools: Devonport High School for Boys, Devonport High School for Girls, and Plymouth High School for Girls.
All three schools use Quest Assessment tests in maths and English for the September 2027 entrance exam, held over two Saturdays. For Year 5 students, August is the key time to prepare. This month lets them focus and bring together both subjects before the tests.
For year-round preparation, visit our 11 Plus Saltash Tuition page.
Why Families in Saltash Seek the 11 Plus Summer Booster Courses?
Many families in Saltash prefer to sign their children up for an organised 11 Plus summer booster programme rather than have them study on their own in August, especially with important exams coming up in September. Here are the main reasons why local parents make this choice:
Exam practice gap
Getting used to the Quest Assessment format takes repeated practice with full, timed papers. Just knowing the subject content is not enough to be ready for the September exams.
Subject consolidation
The English comprehension and Maths papers test Key Stage 2 knowledge at a high level. Many children do better with focused, structured revision in both subjects during the weeks before the test.
Self-study plateau
Without a clear weekly plan or expert guidance, independent revision often slows and loses focus over the summer, especially as the test date approaches.
Building confidence
Doing full mock papers under conditions similar to the real Saturday exams helps children feel calm and prepared on test day, rather than unsure about what to expect.
Structured August learning
A steady weekly Programme in August keeps preparation on track and gives families a clear plan, rather than leaving revision up to chance.

Saltash Student Crossed the Tamar Bridge to Grammar School Readiness
A student from Saltash joined the summer booster course, aware that Plymouth's grammar schools were just across the Tamar. Even though they were close, she didn’t feel ready. When she tried a practice Quest Assessment paper at home, the English comprehension section was especially tough. She had trouble finding evidence in the passages quickly enough to answer all the questions before time was up. During four weeks of focused reading comprehension sessions, she learned a step-by-step approach to working through texts, identifying key information, and avoiding rereading everything. By the final mock test in late August, her English scores had gone up, and she finished the comprehension section with enough time to check her marked questions. This was a big step forward as she prepared for the real test in September.

Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course Matters for Saltash Families
Plymouth High School for Girls uses Quest Assessment English comprehension and Maths papers for entry in September 2027. There are 120 Year 7 places. Every candidate must take the 11 Plus exam, and students are selected by academic ability. Each year, about three students apply for every place.
Devonport High School for Boys covers south-west Devon, south-east Cornwall, and Plymouth, so Saltash’s PL12 postcode is included. The 11 Plus tests take place over two Saturdays in September 2026, and results are released in mid-October 2026.
Devonport High School for Girls and Plymouth High School for Girls share a registration process for September 2027 entry. Families just need to complete one form for their daughter to take the tests at either school. Results for both schools will be released together on Thursday 15th October 2026.
Saltash families should send their secondary school Common Application Form to Cornwall Council, not Plymouth City Council. The form always goes to the local authority where the child lives. The national deadline is 31st October 2026. Reviewing both subjects in August helps Saltash children build a strong foundation before the September exams.
A focused summer booster course can help children in Saltash, Axminster, Honiton, Seaton, Devonport and the nearby PL12 and PL11 areas improve their exam technique, timing, and confidence for the September assessments.
