Each summer, 11 Plus Tutoring runs an August booster programme for Moseley’s Year 5 pupils as they approach the West Midlands Grammar Schools entrance test. We work with families across Moseley and the surrounding B12, B13 and B14 postcodes who have set their sights on Birmingham’s grammar schools, most directly King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys and King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, both based a short distance away in Kings Heath, alongside other Grammar Schools in Birmingham such as King Edward VI Five Ways School.
The timing of August is no accident. With the school year finished, a child has open space to plug gaps, repeat the trickier question types, and build genuine speed under timed conditions, rather than facing a full-length GL Assessment-style paper cold for the first time in the actual test hall in September.
For year-round preparation, visit our 11 Plus Moseley Tuition page.
Why Families in Moseley Seek the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course
Exam practice gap
Knowing the answers is one thing; completing a full GL Assessment paper under timed conditions is a separate skill that requires practice.
Timing and speed
Children learn to balance pace with precision, enabling them to complete more questions without sacrificing accuracy.
Reasoning subjects
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning can feel unfamiliar at first, particularly since children may not encounter these exercises in regular classroom learning.
Self-study plateau
Expert guidance can reveal hidden problem areas, correct ineffective habits and give pupils a stronger direction during the final preparation stage.
Confidence building
Each completed mock exam builds familiarity, resilience and the belief that the real test can be managed successfully.
Structured August learning
Purposeful summer sessions transform August into a valuable period for steady improvement rather than last-minute revision.
Since every session runs live online, Moseley families get this level of structured tuition from home throughout August, without juggling lifts across town or losing an evening to traffic on the Alcester Road.
Students We Commonly Support for the 11 Plus in Moseley
Our Moseley intake also reaches families in Kings Heath, Balsall Heath, Sparkhill, Selly Park and Edgbaston, spanning the B11, B12, B13 and B14 postcodes, with pupils joining us from local primary schools including Moseley Church of England Primary School, St Bernard’s Catholic Primary School and St John and Monica Catholic Primary School. The great majority are in the final stretch of preparation for the West Midlands Grammar Schools entrance test, with a place at a Year 7 grammar school as the goal.

A Story of a Moseley Student Building Exam Confidence
To prepare for the September 11 Plus exam, a Year 5 student from Moseley joined a summer booster course focused on practising full-length GL-style timed papers. Throughout the four-week programme, consistent mock exams, supported by expert feedback, helped her develop better time management, improve accuracy under pressure, and gain confidence across all core subjects, including Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. By the end of the course, she was working through papers methodically with a structured approach rather than racing against the clock.
