Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Matters for Cippenham Families
For many families in Cippenham, the 11 Plus is an important part of the grammar school admissions journey. Children typically sit the entrance examination in Year 6, with many families using Year 5 and the summer holidays to build exam skills and confidence before the Slough Consortium 11 Plus examination / GL Assessment.
Many families in Cippenham choose to apply for selective schools. Applications for secondary school places are made through Slough Borough Council’s admissions process, with the national closing date for Year 7 entry on 31 October.
Entry to Herschel Grammar School is highly competitive, and achieving a strong score in the entrance examination is only one part of the admissions process. Places are allocated according to each school’s published admissions arrangements and oversubscription criteria.
According to the Slough Consortium 11 Plus Agreements, the structure and format of the examinations from September 2023 are similar to those used under the previous provider. Pupils will sit two test papers, with questions covering a combination of verbal and non-verbal reasoning, English and mathematics. All marking and standardisation will be carried out by the test provider.
The Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools consists of Herschel Grammar School (Slough Consortium mentioned in Herschel Admission 2026), Langley Grammar, St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar, and Upton Court Grammar, which operate a shared 11 Plus exam.
According to Herschel Grammar School, the eligibility score will continue to be set at 111 on a standardised scale. Pupils who achieve the eligibility score of 111 or above may be considered for a grammar school place, subject to each school’s admissions criteria and oversubscription arrangements.
