Most regions have selective grammar schools. Kent has 32, a network so large that students qualifying for entry have genuine choice across a wide geographic area and with varied specialisms. Highworth Grammar School in Ashford is the most local option for Charing families, but it’s only one possibility among many. Qualifying for the Kent Test opens doors to schools across the entire county: from Tunbridge Wells in the south to Dartford in the north, from Cranbrook in the west to Deal in the east.
A strong Kent Test score might open access to Highworth Grammar School or other schools such as The Norton Knatchbull School and Maidstone Grammar School. Summer 11 Plus preparation matters intensely because qualifying in Kent is competitive. Only children who achieve sufficient marks qualify, and summer gives children the exposure to test conditions that school alone cannot provide.

Why Families in Charing Seek the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course

Getting familiar with the Kent Test
The Kent Test includes English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, and a writing task. Each section requires a different approach, and regular practice helps children become comfortable with the format.

Improving speed and accuracy
The test is completed under strict time limits. Many pupils know the answers but struggle to finish on time. Timed practice helps children work more quickly while maintaining accuracy.

Exploring grammar school options
Families are often surprised by the number of grammar schools available once a child qualifies. Summer preparation gives parents time to understand the admissions process and consider which schools may be the best fit.

Preparing for the writing task
Although the 40-minute writing exercise is not formally marked, it is reviewed as part of the assessment process. Practising writing tasks helps children express their ideas clearly and confidently.

Building exam stamina
Children must complete two demanding test papers in one sitting. Full mock tests and longer practice sessions help develop the concentration and endurance needed on exam day.

Developing confidence under pressure
Competition for grammar school places is high. Summer preparation helps children become familiar with exam conditions, manage nerves, and approach the test with greater confidence.

How a Charing Year 5 Student Moved from Anxious to Assured
One student from Charing joined the summer course, convinced he'd never manage the Kent Test. Non-Verbal Reasoning felt incomprehensible; rotations, reflections, and spatial patterns all seemed foreign. His parents worried the gap was too wide to close in four weeks. Over the summer, our tutors identified the real issue: he understood concepts but lacked exposure to test-style questions under time pressure. Week one focused on NVR fundamentals with patient explanation. By week two, he completed full papers within time limits. Week three brought genuine confidence. Week four showed marked improvement across all papers. When September arrived, he sat the Kent Test without fear. He qualified for grammar school entry.
