Why the 11 Plus Summer Booster Course Matters for Boldmere Families
The West Midlands Consortium uses the GL Assessment, which has two multiple-choice papers. These test English comprehension, Maths, and reasoning skills (verbal, non-verbal, and spatial). Results are age-standardised, and there are no writing sections. Scores are weighted as follows: 50% for English/verbal reasoning, 25% for Maths, and 25% for non-verbal reasoning.
To get into Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, boys must pass the West Midlands 11 Plus test. You need to register online by late June, take the exam in September, and list the school on your local council form by October 31. The school has 192 Year 7 places.
To get into Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls, your child must pass the West Midlands 11 Plus test. Parents need to register for the exam, take it in September, and put the school on their Local Authority form. Selection is based on age-standardised scores, and there are 180 places.
To get a Year 7 place at a King Edward VI Grammar School, your child must pass the 11+ entrance exam in Year 5. The school has 180 places. For 2026–2027, you must register for the test before 4:00 PM on Friday, June 26, 2026.
To apply for a Year 7 place in Birmingham or the West Midlands, send your preference application to your local authority, such as Birmingham City Council, by the national deadline, usually in late October.
For many families in Boldmere and nearby areas such as Sutton Coldfield, Wylde Green, Erdington, and Four Oaks, the 11 Plus summer course helps students prepare for exam day. It improves timing, confidence, and full-paper exam technique before September.
