How Sutton’s Selective-School Admissions Process Works

Sutton’s six participating schools use a shared Selective Eligibility Test (SET), so families only need to register once. A successful result leads to different next steps depending on the school. Greenshaw High School uses the result when considering pupils for ability places, while successful candidates for the five selective grammar schools are invited to relevant second-stage entrance examinations.
How the Easter Course Supports Sutton Families:

Sutton Grammar School Round-1

The SET is the shared first-stage eligibility test. Sutton Council confirms that families only need to register once for the participating schools. A successful SET result allows Greenshaw High School to consider pupils for its ability places, while successful candidates for the five selective grammar schools are invited to the relevant second-stage entrance examinations.

Sutton Grammar School Round-2

Sutton has five selective schools: Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls and Wilson’s School. Greenshaw High School also participates in the shared SET but is not a selective grammar school, according to the Sutton Council information on secondary school admissions.

Sutton Grammar School Places

Each school also applies its own published admission criteria when allocating places. Families should check the latest arrangements for their preferred school, as these can change each year.

Queen Elizabeth school (boys)

For September 2027 entry, Wallington County Grammar School has a published admission number of 150 Year 7 places. This is a 2027 entry figure; families preparing for September 2028 should check the school’s latest published admission arrangements when available.

11 Plus Easter Revision - FAQs Explained

Why can Easter be useful for September 2027 SET?
The Easter break gives Year 5 pupils a focused period to revisit key skills, practise timed questions and address areas that may need further attention before the September 2027 SET and other selective-school assessments.
Which selective schools do Sutton families consider?
Sutton’s five selective schools are Sutton Grammar School, Wallington County Grammar School, Wallington High School for Girls, Nonsuch High School for Girls and Wilson’s School. Greenshaw High School also participates in the shared SET but is not a selective grammar school.
Is it hard to get into Sutton Grammar School?
Admission can be competitive because the school applies its published admission criteria when allocating places. Passing the relevant assessment does not automatically guarantee an offer.
Do Sutton selective schools use the same Selective Eligibility Test?
Yes. Sutton’s six participating schools use the shared Selective Eligibility Test (SET). A successful SET result allows Greenshaw High School to consider pupils for its ability places, while successful candidates for the five selective grammar schools are invited to the relevant second-stage entrance examinations. Each school has its own admissions arrangements, so families should check the current policy for the school they are considering.
When should my child start timed practice before the Selective Eligibility Test?
Year 5 pupils can introduce timed practice gradually as their core skills develop. The Easter break can provide a useful opportunity to increase timed work before the September 2027 SET and any subsequent school-specific assessment.
Is Easter revision enough for the Selective Eligibility Test in Sutton?
An eight-session Easter course can provide a focused revision boost, but it is best viewed as part of a wider preparation plan. Pupils who need further support can continue with regular 11 Plus tuition after Easter and work towards the September assessment.
What can be done to improve my child's speed in the Selective Eligibility Test during Easter?
Strategies used during the Easter Course include:
  • Structured revision
  • Timed practice
  • Exam-technique practice
  • Review of common errors
