How Competitive Is Grammar School Entry for Farnborough Families?
Farnborough families need to know the entrance requirements for Newstead Wood School and St Olave’s Grammar School as part of 11 Plus preparation. The Easter holidays are a good time for Year 5 pupils to build the skills they will need for the September assessments.
Here’s why focused 11 Plus preparation matters for Farnborough families:
Newstead Wood School and St Olave’s Grammar School
Newstead Wood School and St Olave’s Grammar School run separate entrance tests rather than using one shared assessment. Families still apply through the London Borough of Bromley’s coordinated admissions process, naming their preferred school on the Common Application Form (CAF).
Newstead Wood School
Newstead Wood School tests Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. There is no separate English or Maths paper. The school requires a minimum age-standardised score of 210 and has a Published Admission Number of 168 places.
St Olave’s Grammar School
St Olave’s Grammar School uses a two-stage entrance process. Stage 1 covers English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. The highest-performing 450 candidates are then invited to Stage 2, which includes written English and Maths papers. The school has 124 Year 7 places, plus up to four Wakeham Chorister places.
London Borough of Bromley
Meeting the required standard does not guarantee a place at either school. Offers are made based on each school’s published admissions rules and test results. Final decisions are confirmed by the London Borough of Bromley on National Offer Day in March.
