How Grammar School Entry Works in Blackfen
With limited Grammar School places available across Bexley’s four Grammar Schools and thousands of children sitting the test, focused Easter preparation can give Blackfen pupils a valuable boost before the final run-up to September.
The Bexley Selection Test Round-1
The Bexley Selection Test is used by all four Grammar Schools in the borough: Bexley Grammar School, Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, Beths Grammar School and Townley Grammar School. It consists of two timed multiple-choice papers covering verbal ability and English comprehension, numerical reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning, with each paper lasting around 50 minutes plus instructions and a short break.
The Bexley Selection Test Round-2
Even if a student meets the selective standard, it does not guarantee a place. Each school has its own admissions rules, and where you live can make a difference. The top 180 scorers get priority, but final offers depend on each school’s oversubscription rules.
Bexley Grammar School Places
Bexley Grammar School has 210 places for Year 7. Students must meet the selective standard to be considered, and then places are offered according to the school’s admissions rules. The top 180 scorers are given priority in Bexley’s system.
Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School
Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School is the nearest Grammar School to Blackfen. For September 2027 entry, it has a Published Admission Number of 192. The school is very popular; for September 2026 entry, 5,866 children took the Bexley Selection Test, but only 35% were considered selective.
